Description:
Tan-colored stoneware jug stamp-impressed "M. C. WEBSTER & SON/ HARTFORD", partially covered with cobalt blue. There is a large chip off the spout. Numerous stoneware potters worked in the Hartford, Connecticut area, supplying Connecticut Valley with durable crocks, jars, and jugs made from suitable clay brought up the river. Mack C. Webster and his son, Charles T. Webster, continued to run the pottery after the disolution of the original Horace Goodwin and Mack C. Webster partnership (1831- c.1840) until Mack Webster's death in 1857. Charles continued the pattery in partnership with Orson Hart Seymour as Webster and Seymour (1857-1867). The tall, cylindrical, bulbous jug has a narrow spout, incised line just below the stamped name, strap handle extending from the spout, wide shoulders, and tapering base with a flat bottom.
