Description:
Chinese export porcelain drum-shaped teapot with cover and a straight spout with depressed tip, which was possibly ordered for the American market as the drum shape was a standard order. The shape of handle, with its applied crossed strap handles ending in gilded moulded leaves with painted abstract brown flowers, is based on prototype of English ceramics at Leeds, Staffordshire, brought to China to copy in porcelain. There is a triple band border at the neck with a scalloped brown band, over trails of tiny blossoms, over a brown band; and both sides have brown flower and leaf sprigs in the center. There are traces of gilding at neck and spout. The flat cover with same triple border reversed at edge and fruit gilded knop with brown leaves. The body is glazed inside.
