Description:
Set of jewelry that appears to consist of a necklace, and earrings (65.143.1). As a whole, the set may be cobbled together. the enamel decoration suggests the later, turn of the century date, as Renaissance Revival jewelry. The pieces feature a trembleuse construction, mounted to have individual aspects move when the wearer walked, thus enhancing the appeal and allure of the decoration. The earrings appear to be the earliest part; their weight is characteristic of earlier, 18th-century earrings, and they were likely constructed to be worn connecting each with a ribbon tied around the back of the wearer's head to help with the weight. The necklace seems too spiky to wear (individual elements too curved inwards to rest comfortably on the wearer), and possibly it was a belt at the turn of the 20th century.
