Description:
Flat-backed plaque in shape of head and shoulders of baboon seen from side, with large snout and with bands of beaded necklaces depicted across shoulders. Stitching holes at top (one) and at base (four), for sewing to mummy wrappings. Green except for black on eye and outlining shoulder. With a change in funerary practices beginning in Dynasty 21, the internal organs were returned to the body in packages protected by special amulets depicting the same protective dieties as on canopic jars. These deities were the four sons of Horus. The baboon-headed Hapy was he deity who guarded the lungs. Canopic jars, previously for internal organs, continued to be provided but were left empty.
