Description:
Pair of silver candlesticks with round sockets, square faceted stems, and stepped square based with cut corners, which are marked "Fr" in a shield for James Fraillon; the hallmarks of Britannia, a loin's head erased, and the date letter "K" in a shield for 1725-1726; and stamped with the crest of a fox out of a mural coronet on top of the bases. Fraillon was apprenticed to Philip Roker in 1699, free in 1706, and probably died between September 1727 and June 1728. Although he does not seem to have been commissioned for any large decorative pieces, the quality of his work as seen in such items as these candlesticks shows his standards to have been high.
