Label Text:
Label text from “The Art of Collecting: Contemporary Prints from the Risa Gerrig Collection,” September 10 – October 12, 2014:
Influenced by indigenous cultures, Bedia illustrates ideas of spirituality inspired by the religious traditions of peoples such as the Native Americans and Africans through a highly personal lens. In this print the artist depicts a hunting scene that combines a modern hunting tool, a rifle, with the primitive spiritual nature of the hunt. The narrow, elongated skeleton-like form of the dominant central figure who oversees the hunt evokes an otherworldly or divine presence. Extraña Satisfacción explores the connection between the physical and spiritual worlds as well as the confrontation between nature and machine. - Felicia Bolaske (B.A. ‘14)
