Label Text: “I like the colors, but composition is ordinary.” “. . . keep an eye out for a more interesting sky :)” “. . . there is nothing to hold interest like a small boat on the horizon.” “Yep. That’s a good one & not a cliche.”
These are just a few of the comments that Diane Rosenblum has received in response to her cloud photographs, which she posts on the social media platform Flickr. A San Francisco-based, conceptual artist, Rosenblum invites feedback about her cloudscapes in the form of emotional reactions, compositional critique, or technical advice. She then overlays selected phrases on the photographs and creates prints. Responding to the state of photography today, in which images are made and shared on an immeasurable scale, Rosenblum deliberately starts a conversation with her photographs. She allows strangers and anonymous others to bring meaning to her subject matter.
