Description:
This woven Pima tray primarily consists of dried willow (comprising the lighter colored or "white" background), as well as "basket claw" (or "devil's claw") fiber, which accounts for the black design. The four black lines emanating from the black circle is known as a "whirlwind" design, whereas the eight square motifs represent coyote tracks. The basket is finished with a braided edge. Because basket claw becomes naturally black as it is dried for weaving, the basket's patterns will not easily fade--compared to if the basket was made out of dyed fibers. AP2018
