Description: Small oval box with a removable cover, the function of which is not clear, but may have held shot or possibly French chalk, a soft white compact talc used to draw lines on cloth or to remove stains. The box had been in the collection of Percy Dobson, an English collector, until obtained by the donor. The case is made of hollowed horn with a copper and brass band around the base. The lid has a gadrooned band around the rim, and a ring attached a brass escutcheon, which extends through the copper top and is fixed to a piece of wood inside the lid. A leather thong is wrapped through the ring and extends to a hole in the side.
