Description: Bandbox or hatbox with a lid made of cardboard covered with wallpaper in a stylized scroll and floral pattern in white, grey, and black on a blue ground, which belonged to the donor's grandfather. Dr. Mowbrey, The box is inscribed in ink: "Dr. Mowbrey / Penataquit, L. I. / To be left at Thompson Station / car of / Stage Driver." There is also a green printed label: "Forwarded by / Gorwin and Munsell / Long Island Railroad / Express Office / 72 Broadway / New York." The Thompson Station was opened in 1842 (located where the Sagtikos Parkway now crosses the Long Island Expressway) and abandoned in 1869.
