Description:
Sheraton sofa upholstered in green silk brocade in 1991 (replaced previous upholstery of figured green bourette). The sofa has a reeded mahogany top rail and arm cappings; rolled shoulders that seem to presage Grecian influences; scrolled arms over fluted urns; rolled shoulders at the rear of the arms; three reeded front legs (two side arm supports and legs formed from one piece of wood), and three rear legs turned to conform to the front legs, each of which is on a caster. Casters came into use by the Federal period and were found on sofas, chairs, tables, and occasionally case pieces.
