Description:
Framed broadside advertising Lyman's General Store in Charlemont, Massachusetts. Broadside reads: "GOOD NEWS/ FOR THE/ PEOPLE!/ The fact that there is a place in Franklin/ County where Ready Pay buyers of Goods do not have to pay fifteen per cent/ extra to cover bad debts./ A.L. TYLER/ Has made his arrangements complete for doing a READY/ PAY. BUSINESS EXCLUSIVELY; believing that to be the true way of doing business at the / present day. The time has come in these days of Steam Power when the old Credit System can be/ done away with, and a new order of things take its place, as almost everything in the country is/ ready cash. I think my old customers and the public generally will acquiesce in my arrangements/ and will prefer to pay for their goods when they purchase them, and not be compelled to pay for long/ credits and poor debits, and thereby save themselves a handsome profits by doing so; as I can afford to/ I am now receiving and opening a very large STOCK of FOREIGN and DOMESTIC/ DRY GOODS,/ which have been selected with great care and with due regard for the wants of this community. It/ will be kept up with such additions from time to time as sales may require./ The following is a list of some of the articles kept on hand.--/For the particulars call at the Store and examine Goods and Prices./ Rich and Medium Price Black and Fancy Dress Silks; Black Silk and Bay State Shawls; Dress and Cloak Trimmings, all widths and qualities; Gloves and Hosiery in great variety. In Dress Goods everything new and desirable: Thibets, Wool Plaids, Cotton and Wool do, All Wool DeLaines, Cot-/ ton and Wool do, in Plain Stripes, Plaids and Figures from 12 1-2c. upwards; Alpaccas, Lyonese Cloths, Cashmeres and DeBieges; Prints , a splendid assortment from 4 1-2 to 11c. per yard. A good assortment of Mourning Goods, Ladies' Collars and Under Sleeves, Opera Hoods, Bleached and Brown Sheetings; and prices that defy all competition. Denims, Tickings, Tweeds and Doeskins," Etc....
