Description:
Levi Mumpher (1843-1916) opened a phographic gallery in Gettysburg around 1864. His imprints genrally read "L. Mumpher" or "Mumpher & Co.". Most of Levi's battlefield scenes appear to been taken from early to mid-1870's. He sold his business to his son Jacob Ira Mumpher (1867-1923) in 1895. The imprint on the photographs then changed to "J.I. Mumpher" until 1911 when it was taken over by Jacobs brother Clyde (1879-1967). Clyde shared the business with another until it closed in 1948. The imprint then was "Mumpher Studios".
