Description:
Staffordshire pearlware/ironstone large, oval meat platter with molded "well and tree" pattern and decorated with a blue transfer print in the Willow pattern. The bottom is printed: "IRON STONE / CHINA / S. K. & Co." Samuel Keeling was located on Market Street in Hanley; his printed marks include either the full name or the initials "S.K. & Co." The Willow pattern was very popular in early 19th-century America, and many potteries in Staffordshire made this pattern to keep up with the demand. The platter has a well at one end and a series of channels molded into its surface to drain the gravy into the well.
