Description:
One of four silver tablespoons (HD 2001.53.55-.58) with a double-swell handle with curved tipped end, short shoulders, and a pointed oval bowl, which is marked "E. CUTLER" and "BOSTON" in a rectangle on the back of the handle for Eben Cutler (1816-1889), and engraved "CM Colby" in script on the back of the handle. Eben Cutler worked with his brother Amos Cutler (1808-1894) from 1839-1841 in Boston using the mark, "A&E CUTLER", and by himself from 1842-1850. An advertisement in the Boston Directory of 1851 lists Dodge & King as succesors to Eben Cutler at 217 Washington St.
