Jonathan Trott (1730-1815) was born and trained as a silversmith in Boston; he worked there until c.1781 when he and his family moved to Norwich, Connecticut, where he operated a tavern from 1781-c.1785. He then moved to New London from where he resumed his profession as jeweler. Jonathan Trott trained his sons, John Proctor Trott (1769-1852) and his brother, Jonathan Trott, Jr. (1771-1813), and both also worked with him in New London.
