Description:
Silver tablespoon with an elliptical bowl and a rounded drop and shell; thick hemispherical shaft tapered to upturned rounded-end handle; and a long midrib on front of handle tip. The spoon is marked "IR" twice on the back of the handle for Joseph Richardson (1711-1784),and engraved with the initials "V / R.R" in block letter and "Rev. Jos. H. O'Neill" in script on the back of the handle (added later), and "1733" and "1890" on the front. Reverend Joseph H. O'Niell was listed as a catholic priest and rector of St. Francis de Sales in Philadelphia in the Public Ledger Almanacs for 1870-73 and 1894.
