Description:
Silver tablespoon with an elliptical bowl and a long rat-tail drop; straight hemispherical shaft tapered to narrow upturned rounded-end handle; and a long midrib on the front of the handle. The spoon is marked "S.E" crowned in a shield-shape for Samuel Edwards (1705-1762), and engraved "A + D" in large block letters on the back of the handle. Edwards worked in Boston from 1729-1762 with his father, John Edwards (1671-1746), and brother, Thomas (1701-1755).
