Description:
Hard-cover book of 606 pages. "First Lessons in Botany and Vegetable Physiology; illustrated by over 360 wood engravings from original drawings by Isaac Sprague to which is added a copious Glossary or Dictionary of Botanical Terms" by Asa Gray. Published by Ivison, Phinney & Company, New York [and] S.C. Griggs & Company, Chicago, 1863. It is inscribed "Susan M. Lane from Alice, May 1863." who are Susan Minot Lane (1832-1893), life-long friend and companion of Miss C. Alice Baker (1833-1909). It is annotated on the front and back covers and fly leaves in pencil. there is a newspaper clipping stapled to the front fly leaf.
