Description:
English delft four-sided, rectangular container or box with a slab-built construction, decorated in blue. This box or container is an unusual form for English delftware; there is no evidence that it had a lid. The short ends are decorated with blue floral sprigs of petalled flowers outlined in a blue square; the long sides are decorated in blue in a chinoiserie garden scene of hollow rocks, running fence, bamboo, and flowers outlined in a blue rectangle. The label on base of container reads, "L.L.L./ Collection/ no. 1140" (denotes previous ownership in the Louis Lipski collection) and previous owners label of "A-880/A". There are some chips to the upper rim and on sides of container.
