Description:
English pearlware large jug often called "granite ware" or "gravelware" by collectors. The jug has a V-shaped spout; straight neck; attached curved handle with molded leafy palmette terminals; body with broad rounded shoulders tapering to a flat circular base; and small turned footrim. The neck of jug is decorated with a brown band of iron-rich slip; the body is decorated with finely crushed granules of fired clay and subsequently decorated in underglaze high temperature oxide color in a lozenge pattern of yellow diamonds with brown slip dots. The spout has been chipped and stained. The modern paper label on the base reads "443".
