Description:
One of two silver tablespoons (see HD 1998.7.17) with a long elliptical bowl and a molded rounded drop; straight tapered rectangular shaft to downturned rounded-end handle; short midrib on the back of the handle; and ribbing around entire edge of handle. The spoon is marked "I.HALSEY" in rectangle on the back of the handle for Jabez Halsey (1762-1820), and engraved with the initials "G / D*P" in block letters in bright-cut oval on the front of the handle. Halsey had a short-lived partnership with Philip Dally (probably) from 1787-1789 at 58 Queen Street, and then continued his gold and silversmithing business until he left to go the the Customs Office in 1797.
