Description:
Spanish wrought iron skewer. According to Bill Hubbard, Sunderland, MA, many of these skewers were imported into America in the 1950's and 1960's to sell as American antiques. The long, sharp skewer has a square cross section. is twisted near the handle, and ends in a loop terminus; a X-shaped stand attaches at the top of the skewer. Skewers were used to hold roasting meat or other food, and the handle could be used to rotate the skewer.
