"Carved and gilded Kwannon figure on a gilt lotus flower throne, with a gilt cloud motif mandorla. Kwannon is the Japanese name for Avalokiteshvara (sanskrit), an Indian Bodhisattva. Bodhisattva means one who has attained enlightenment but prefers to remain in the wold of samsara to aid other sentient beings toward enlightenment and ultimate salvation."
