Description:
Treen or wooden bowl made from a burl with carved handles. Treen, which was a very inexpensive choice for tablewares, was turned or carved from locally available wood and cost only a few pence to purchase. Although used by many, by the mid-18th century wooden ware dishes had become considered unrefined for a genteel dining table.
