Description:
Chest of drawers in cherry and white pine with a serpentine front and the original circular brasses. American makers cut the serpentine drawer fronts from solid wood, cutting a corresponding shape on the inside to give the fronts a uniform thickness. The conforming serpentine flat top has rounded corners and string inlay around the molded edge, with three propeller-like quatrefoils on both front ends and one in the center, and quarter-fan inlays on each back corner with a half-fan inlay on the center back. There are four graduated drawers, each of which has string inlay around the drawer and a quarter-fan inlay in each corner. There are two strings of inlay along both side ends. The chest has a molded base over four molded bracket feet. The Flynts found the chest in Brooklyn, New York, where it had been for many years.
