Description:
English colorless lead glass champagne flute with an etched oak leaf design around the rim of the elongated trumpet bowl and folded foot. According to Ken Wilson, glass scholar, in April 1979, he thought this glass might be Continental European in origin. In the 18th century such glasses were called flutes which refered to their long narrow bowls, They were used for both champagne and ale. Ale was a more potent drink than it is today and was consumed in smaller quantities. In drinking champagne, it was felt that the long bowl helped display the bubbles to the best advantage.
