Description:
18 carat gold combination propelling pen and pencil of a patented design. The decorative engine turned body alternates stippling with engraved foliage, the pen is also engraved with the makers name - W.M.WILMARTH 18. There are raised foliate scroll chased collars to either end which facilitate the extension of the inner tubes which house the Pen & Pencil. The collars are then half-turned and retracted to expose the writing instruments. The process is repeated to close the instrument. The inner barrel stamped: "LOWNDS PATENT Oct.3.1854"/ "W.M. Wilmarth"/ "A. Horton, New York, 1857". This presentation piece is also engraved "Parker Jones from Franklin Pierce."
