Description:
Dutch landscape with farm house

Label Text:
Like many Dutch artists, Rembrandt often regarded the surrounding countryside as an inspiration for his landscape prints, rather than as a model to be slavishly copied. Landscape with Cottage and Haybarn is a pastiche of different sites: a distant view of a city (probably inspired by Amsterdam) on the left, a ramshackle cottage and haybarn, overlaid with foliage, in the foreground center, and a distant water view with a castle on the horizon to the right.
