Description:
Tan-colored salt-glazed stoneware 1/2-gallon jug (unmarked) with a mottled surface pattern; incised line around the sloping shoulder 2 3/4" down from the top; thick loop handle extending from the molded lip to the top of the shoulder; and a wedge or stilt mark on bottom. The jug appears to have been painted black and there traces of black paint over the surface. Cobalt and clay slip are daubed on the handle and on a spot on front of jug; the clay in the cobalt slip mix burns during the high heat of the firing. There is a chip on the handle top.
