Description:
Puzzle jug, Continental European, possibly Italy, c. 1850. Lead-glazed earthenware jug with notched upper rim, cylindrical neck, three spouts coming out of a cylindrical tube that attaches to the handle, many circular holes through the lower neck of the piece, the holes have decorative pricking along the circumference, the body is globular with a beaded band, and applied floral sprigging, on a waisted and round, flaring foot. Jug is extremely heavy. Surface of the glaze is excessively bubbled with black specks.
