Description:
Thrown, red earthenware jug , the object has a flat bottom, a slightly undercut base, swelled sides, and a pointed narrow shoulders and neck, the circular spout has a rounded rim, attached to the side is an applied strap handle with ribs, glazed all over with manganese black lead glaze, inscribed in pencil on the bottom of the object, “Whately/ probably [underlined], and along the bottom edge of the piece, “Whately Probably” Current attribution provided by American ceramics scholar Justin Thomas, 1/16/2019.
