Description:
Thrown, red earthenware jug with small, circular base with molded edge, bellied, curving sides, narrowing neck, and flaring rim, spout of jug is created from pinching the rim, applied strap handle on side of jug, ornamented with single rib on neck, covered all over with dark brown manganese lead glazed, glaze is slightly lustrous and crazed, some chips to the upper rim, inscribed on the bottom of the jug in pencil “Col 1918[?]/ Col Chatham/ Cape Cod.” Formerly part of the Burton N. Gates Collection.
