Description:
Thrown, red earthenware jug or storage container, flat bottom, ovoid-shaped , swelled body, tapers at top to a point with a spout, attached ribbed strap handle on side, the neck of the pot has been incised with three ribs for decoration, the whole pot is covered all over with a dark brown manganese lead glaze, inscribed on the bottom of the pot in red ink, “51.” and “Col./ Wellesley/ Mass./1906” Formerly part of the Burton N. Gates Collection. Original Gates notecard for this object reads, "Jug./ Col. Worcester 1906. Red clay: black glaze. 6.5 in./ 3 incised rings near top."
