Description:
Ovoid-shaped, thrown redware jar, with swollen sides and narrow neck, flaring rim, two incised rings mid way on belly of jug, covered all over with dark brown manganese black lead glaze, on the underside of object in red paint is "52." and in red marker "Col. / Worcester, Mass." Formerly part of the Burton N. Gates Collection. The Gates catalogue card for this object reads: "52. Snuff jar & cover. col. Worcester. Red clay. black glaze. 2 incised rings mid way. Beaded incision on cover. 10 in to Pof of knot on cover." (no cover exists with this object)
