Description:
Thrown ovoid shape jug with strap handle impressed with mark "FLB", covered with a mottled olive brown alkaline glaze. Marked FLB for Franklin L. Becham, 1871-1958, Crawford County, Georgia, son of Washington Becham. Marked “FLB” within a rectangle on strap handle, inscribed on bottom in black ink, “Col. Dec. ’07./ Washington/ D.C.” and in red paint, “88.” This object was formerly in the Burton N. Gates Collection. The original Gates notecard for this object reads, "Jug./ Col. Washington, D.C. 1907. Stoneware: mottled glaze./ Impressed marke on handle./ FLB [in rectangle] see corresp. Nat. Museum./ 8.5 in."
