Description:
Tall, wheel thrown coffeepot body with a high domed cover with tear drop finial, baluster-shaped body with press molded spout, applied strap handle, and flaring circular foot, spout is molded with an overlapping acanthus leaf pattern with a serpent at the tip, the body and spout are painted in underglaze cobalt blue with stylized floral designs, in the center there is a large rose with thinner sprigs of leaves issuing forth on all sides, the cover is similarly painted, both the cover and the upper edge of pot have painted cross hatched and x-shaped flower borders. Condition: There is a hairline crack on the neck of the coffee pot. There is an area of glaze crawl or creep (original in the firing) at the base of the foot. Transfered from the Brooklyn Museum, from the collection of Florence Balasny-Barnes.

This English pearlware coffeepot is typical of the thousands of coffee and teawares sent to the United States during the New Republic period.
