Description:
Framed drawing of "Mount Tom & Connecticut River", artist unknown. This is based on a print titled "Mount Tom and the Connecticut River" (see HD 77.089 for an example engraved by J. T. Willmore and drawn by T. Creswick) based on a drawing by William Henry Bartlett (1809-1854). This print also appeared in Volume 1 of "American Scenery" (London: George Virtue, 1840) by Nathaniel Parker Willis, which is illustrated with engravings made from Bartlett's drawings from his four visits to the United States between 1836 and 1852. This drawing depicts the Connecticut River with a wide section of bank in the foreground with people standing at the river's edge with a dog, and a man walking along the road behind a mule-drawn wagon led by another man; two boats in the river; and on the opposite bank, the several peaks of Mount Tom. A basket, HD 77.079, is decorated with this scene.
