Description:
Framed engraving titled "Connecticut Valley from Mount Tom" engraved by J. D. Woodward based on a drawing by Hunt. The scene depicts the view south from a rocky promotory of Mount Tom, Mass., overlooking the oxbow of the Connecticut River, with a steam boat making its way upstream. This print is similar to those produced in England based on drawings done by William Henry Bartlett (1809-1854) during his four visits to the United States between 1836 and 1852, which appeared in Nathaniel Parker Willis, "American Scenery" (London: George Virtue, 1840).
