Print (steel engraving) titled in center under the print "Fort Chambly." in script and below to the left and right is "FORT CHAMBLY" and "DAS FORT CHAMBLY" by William Henry Bartlett (1809-1854) and illustrated in his "Canadian Scenery." In the attack on Deerfield in 1704, over 100 Deerfield inhabitants were taken captive and marched north to Canada to be ransomed. On their way to Montreal, the captives stopped at Fort Chambly, a French fort on the rapids of the Richelieu River. The print depicts Fort Chambly and the river and a group of people and several boats in the foreground. Under the print on the right is printed, "J.T. Willmore" and on the left, "W.H. Bartlett." In center on lower edge is printed: "London. Published for the Proprietors, by Geo. Virtue, 26. Ivy Lane, 1840."
