From Picturesque America; or, The Land We Live In, A Delineation by Pen and Pencil of the Mountains, Rivers, Lakes...with Illustrations on Steel and Wood by Eminent American Artists. Vol. II, edited by William Cullen Bryant. D. Appleton and Company, New York, 1874. The book Picturesque America was a six-volume work on America’s natural attractions and was edited by William Cullen Bryant (1794–1878). William Cullen Bryant was an American romantic poet, journalist, and long-time editor of the New York Evening Post. Born in Cummington, Massachusetts, he started his career as a lawyer but showed an interest in poetry early in his life. He soon relocated to New York and took up work as an editor at various newspapers.
