Photograph album with an embossed black leather cover with a design of gilt flowers tied with a bow in the center and "Album" on the spine, brass clasp, and marbelized end papers in the 'green worm' pattern common in the mid 19th century. There are heavily slotted paper pages with outlined windows that hold 18 photographs, ranging in date from 1850 to 1870, of members of the Hubbard, Clarke, Grant, Boyd, Smead, Alvord, and Hubbell families. The photographs are inscribed ink in order: "P.D. Hubbard" (a woman), circa 1855; "Mrs. Nancy Clarke," circa 1864; "Lucius Clarke," circa 1864; "Mrs. Susan Grant," circa 1864-1867; "E.P. Grant," circa 1865-1867; "Mrs. Samuel Boyd," circa 1864; unidentified, circa 1865-1866, but printed on the back, "FROM/ M. KERTSON'S,/ 142 CHATHAM ST./ New York."; unidentified, circa 1850; unidentified, circa 1850; "Hon. John Boyd," circa 1870; "Mrs. Solomon Smead," late 1860s; "Luman Hubbell," circa 1865; "Mrs. Henrietta Hubbell," circa 1865; "Mrs. S.A. Hubbard," circa 1859, and printed on the back, "KELLOGG BROTHERS/ Photographers/ 279 Main St./ Hartford, Conn./ Additional Copies from the plate from which this picture is taken can be had if desired"; "Mr. S.A. Hubbard," circa 1859; "Mrs. Ashley Hubbard," circa 1858; "S. Ashley Hubbard," circa 1850; and "Mrs. Elizabeth H. Alvord," circa 1865. "Mrs. Ashley Hubbard" is Betsey Dole Hubbard (1794-1862), wife of Ashley Hubbard (1792-1861), who appears to be wearing the same dress and pin (may be one of the mourning pins, HD 89.084 and HD 89.085, given by Parker Dole Hubbard) as appears in her painting by Erastus Salisbury Field (1805-1900), HD 89.046, . "Mr. S.A. Hubbard" and "S. Ashley Hubbard" is their second son, Stephen Ashley Hubbard (1827-1890) also painted by Field as a boy, HD 91.001; and his wife, Elizabeth Boyd Hubbard, is "Mrs. S.A. Hubbard". "Mrs. Elizabeth H. Alvord" is Ashley's and Betsey's second daughter, Elizabeth Peck Hubbard Alvord (b.1830) also painted by Field as a girl, HD 91.002. "P.D. Hubbard" may be Elizabeth Newton Hubbard (1842-1915), the wife of Parker Dole Hubbard (1825-1895), first son of Ashley and Betsey also painted by Field as a boy, HD 2005.21. The album descended in the Hubbard family to Parker Dole Hubbard (1919-1994) who sold it to the donors. Parker Dole Hubbard was the son of George Caleb Hubbard (b.1878) and Florence Graves Hubbard, grandson of Parker Dole Hubbard (1825-1895) and Elizabeth Newton Hubbard (1842-1915), great-grandson of Ashley Hubbard (1792-1861) and Betsey Dole Hubbard (1794-1862), and great-great grandson of Caleb Hubbard (1754-1850) and Lucretia Ashley Hubbard (1767-1853) of the Plumtrees section of Sunderland, Mass.
