Description:
Ear protectors were sometimes put onto horses. They could be functional, to protect a horse's ears from insects, wind, or cold, or decorative, for a pageant or funeral/mourning. This example appears to be for the latter category. An open, netted foundation of cotton is decorated with red wool tassels, some of which may be replaced.
