Description:
Cast iron red cage-type circus wagon stamped on both sides "OVERLAND CIRCUS." The wagon has been repainted with the original colors: red body, yellow wheels and undercarriage, 2 white horses, red and black harnesses, yellow traces. The driver and orange lion in the cage are replacements, as was the chain between the horses and wagon replaced by wirepulls. The wagon was part of a set with a band and calliope; the patent marks on the undercarriage are 3314 & 3316, and "Made in USA". Toy production began in 1894 under the name of the founder, F. M. Perkins; the company was renamed Kenton Hardware in 1900, and merged with National Novelty Corp. in 1903, continueing its toy production uner the name Wing Mfg. Co. Kenton Hardware Co. remerged as a separate unit in 1920.
