Label Text:
After declaring his love to Zhenia, the story’s protagonist is standing by the house: “a nice, naïve, old house which seemed to look at me with the windows of its mezzanine.” He is looking at the girl’s window, where “a bright light appeared, then a quiet green one—they had covered the lamp with a shade.” While the small window appears as glowing spot, the image’s green overall color evokes the soft light that emanates from the lampshade. In contrast to the version shown in print No. 8, this version of the house conveys a peaceful nightly atmosphere.
