Description:
Small red leather purse containing three coins (see HD 97.72.3b-d), which may have belonged to Samuel Mirick (1695/6-1778) of Springfield, Massachusetts. Mirick married Isabel Ingersol (1701-1790) on Nov. 23, 1725, and was commissioned a Captain of the Fifth Foot Company in the Town of Springfield in the South Regiment of Militia in the County of Hampshire of which John Worthington Esq. is Colonel on August 28, 1754. The Miricks settled in West Springfield where they owned a farm and he held the offices of assessor, constable and surveyor; and both are buried in the Old Agawam cemetery. The purse is now dark red, but is bright red under the flap; and is decorated with incised lines arching up from the center bottom.
