Description:
Cherry stand with a scalloped top and tripod base. This stand is designed in the exuberant “Fancy style” that emerged during the Classical revival period in the early years of the American republic. The scalloped top and use of cherry are the chief indicators of its western Massachusetts origin. The customer paid extra for the undulating top and its beveled underside edges and the turned pedestal. In true “Fancy” manner, the maker combined the familiar and the fanciful to achieve a sense of whimsy.
