Description:
Cylindrical, small silver patch box with a flat-topped friction cover engraved with a five-petalled flower encircled with leaves and an incised band on the top, and the marker's mark: "-H" in a rectangle (incomplete) on the base. The Flynt bought this box from How of Edinburgh Ltd. in London; the store tag (see data file) described it as a small box, English and "late 17th century." Both men and women applied small, decorative patches to their faces to conceal blemishes in genteel society.
