The inscription reads:
"Old peach trees on the cliff; green bamboos in the small house.
Light smoke circles the trees; a mountain casts its shadow
on the pavilion.
Sitting towards the sunset with robes open, grasping one’s
knees,
and singing in the wind.
With bows and banners the brilliant ruler is waiting:
It is not yet time to retire in the cloudy woods."

"Stone cliffs, encircled by peach trees, the old
thatch studio is sheltered deep in bamboo.
Light smoke lies over the trees [obscuring their]
colors; the hut on tall poles perches on the
sheltered side of the peak.
Facing the sunset, one's robe draped casually over
the shoulders, turning into the wind and grasping
one's knees; chanting a poem.
Bows and banners [imminent war] and the brilliant
ruler are waiting: it is not yet the time to retire in
the cloudy woods."
