Description:
Blanket chest with two drawers, eastern white pine grain-painted to simulated mahogany. Inscribed: "Made by J. Matteson August 1 AD 1803." There are several other recorded painted chests with the Matteson signature; unfortunately, there were six Thomas Mattesons living in Shaftsbury during the early nineteenth century.
